The new Civil Code has entered into force in China, replacing the disparate laws that existed before it, Xinhua news agency reports.
The Civil Code of the country was adopted on May 28, 2020 at the third session of the National People’s Congress of the 13th convocation, which is the highest legislative body of the country.
In addition to the main and additional provisions, the Civil Code includes six parts concerning property rights, contracts, personal rights, marriage and family, inheritance and sensitive obligations.
The Code came into force on January 1, 2021. This is the first of its kind “code” of China that has ever been adopted since the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949.
