The coronavirus pandemic could have been triggered by local outbreaks around the world, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in an interview with Xinhua and China Central Television, according to the website of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
“More and more studies show that the epidemic could have become an outbreak in many places around the world,” the Foreign Ministry quoted him as saying.
Wang Yi also noted that China, faced with a new infection, was quickly able to identify the pathogen and released data on the virus, which allowed to begin fighting it at the international level. The PRC has provided anti-epidemic assistance to more than 150 countries and ten international organizations, the minister added.
According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 83.9 million cases of coronavirus infection have been detected in the world, more than 1.8 million people have died. The highest incidence was noted in the USA ‒ more than 20.1 million cases, India (over 10.2 million) and Brazil (over 7.7 million). Russia ranks fourth in the world in the incidence of coronavirus.
Vaccination of risk groups, which include doctors, teachers, military, police and social workers, has already been launched in Russia since the beginning of December. In Moscow, employees of trade, services, industry, transport, culture and journalists can also get vaccinated. An appointment for vaccination has been opened for students of the capital’s universities and colleges.
The first Russian vaccine against the coronavirus “Sputnik V” was registered on August 11. It was developed at the Gamalei Center. The effectiveness of the Sputnik V vaccine was 91.4%, against severe cases of the disease — 100%. At the end of December, more than 2 million doses of the drug were produced, and 1 million doses are coming into civil circulation in the near future.
